Working collaboratively

jessthompson088

One of the things I love about my teaching role is getting a class together to work collaboratively to create a larger piece. This week my class of four year olds created this mixed media piece using chalks, gold acrylic, water colour paints and pencils and oil pastels. They completed individual squares and then ran to find where their piece fitted into the whole work. The energy and rhythm which was created and the counterpoint between the different colours and styles was so exciting and made the session both focused and joyful. The kids had a wonderful time guessing what the final image would be and were delighted with the result. The piece is a portrait of the group as a whole, one onlooker commented 'It's like a Scandinavian Christmas quilt'. I can't wait to exhibit this in our Christmas show.
